Dog Agility Training Class
When you and your best friend truly become a ‘team!’
For you to really bond with your dog, for him or her to be effectively trained and for the two of you to become a team, dog agility training is of paramount importance. The Agility Class given at K9 university builds confidence, is mentally stimulating and a great form of exercise for dog and owner! It’s also a fun way to build a working relationship between you and your dog.
K9U has a competition-style course at one of the largest indoor agility facilities in Chicago. Amongst many other things, your dog will go through tunnels, over jumps and learn to do the weave poles, dog walk and teeter. K9U offers three levels of agility training for dogs, which are beginner, intermediate and advanced.
So why is so much importance placed on dog agility training? … or as we like to say at K9 University why is it one of our preferred subjects for graduation? Well just as parents encourage their kids to do sports or other activities because they learn about teamwork, discipline and communication, dogs and their owners can grow as a team when facing similar types of programs. Just some of the benefits of dog agility training include:
Good manners and control
Although there is running, jumping, coordination etc. in dog agility training, dogs also have to learn to wait their turn while other dogs and owners are using the equipment and when it is their turn dogs need to learn great self control as they are constantly commanded to stay and come when called.
Off – Leash Control
Dog agility training courses consist mostly of ‘off-leash’ activities, so dogs need to respond to owners and trainers without the physical restraint of a leash. Going ‘off leash’ is a gradual process as dogs learn instead to respond to their owner’s body language and commands.
Dog agility training is a great way to strengthen the relationship between dog and owner and helps many dogs overcome their fears of things like unusual surfaces or stimuli, confined spaces and moving away from their owner.
It’s essential in agility training for dogs to be able to understand and follow commands. Owners learn to express themselves in a clear, concise manner and dogs learn to respond appropriately, creating a communication that only exists between owner and pet.
