Every Guest Dog Must Be Registered
Every dog attending a puppy party must be registered with K9 University and have current vaccination records on file before the event. This is not just for the party host’s dog. It applies to every single guest dog. Dogs without completed registration and confirmed vaccination records cannot participate.
Party hosts should send the K9U registration link to every guest on the invite list well ahead of the party date. Each dog owner creates an account, registers their dog, and uploads current vaccination records. Registration can also be completed through the K9 University app. The process takes a few minutes.
K9U requires current records for DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella, Lepto, H3N2, and a current fecal test. After uploading, each guest owner should confirm with the K9U office that their records have been received and approved. Once records are uploaded and confirmed in the portal, guest owners do not need to bring proof of vaccination with them on party day. The easiest way to avoid last-minute problems is to include the registration link and vaccination requirements right in the party invitation.
What to Bring to a Puppy Party
Party hosts are welcome to bring anything they would like. K9U provides the space and supervision. Everything else is up to the host: decorations, dog-safe treats, party favors, a dog-friendly cake, toys, games, and supplies for human guests.
All treats and food served at the party should be dog-safe. Dog-friendly cakes and treats are available from specialty bakeries across Chicago. The host is also responsible for food and beverages for any human guests attending.
Tips for Planning a Great Dog Party
K9U does not handle party planning or provide party supplies, but the team has seen plenty of successful celebrations over the years. A few things that help the day go smoothly:
- Set the date early. Sunday party slots fill up, especially around holidays and popular birthday months. Contact K9U as soon as a date is in mind.
- Send invitations with details. Include the date, time, and K9U’s address (2945 W. Lake Street, Chicago, IL 60612) on every invitation. Remind guests that their dogs must be registered with K9U and have current vaccinations uploaded before the event.
- Choose compatible dogs. Invite dogs that the guest of honor has met before and plays well with. A party with familiar, friendly dogs makes for a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone.
- Plan activities. A fun agility run through the K9U course, a game of fetch, or simply open play time in the indoor or outdoor areas all work well. For birthday parties, a cake-cutting moment and a round of photos make the event memorable.
- Prepare party bags. Send canine guests home with a small treat bag: a chew bone, a toy, or a few training treats. It is a nice touch that dog owners appreciate.
- Capture the moment. Dogs in party hats, dogs with cake on their noses, dogs mid-zoomie: the photo opportunities at a puppy party are priceless. Bring a camera and take plenty of pictures.
Why Host a Puppy Party at K9 University Chicago
K9U’s facility is purpose-built for dogs. The indoor play areas are climate-controlled year-round, the outdoor spaces feature K9 Grass surfacing designed for safe play, and the facility is staffed by a team that understands dog behavior and group dynamics. That combination makes K9U a safer, more comfortable party venue than a public dog park, a backyard, or a restaurant patio.
Private parties mean the space belongs to the party group alone. There are no unfamiliar dogs, no uncontrolled interactions, and no distractions from the celebration. K9U staff are on hand to help manage group play and keep the party running smoothly.

How do I plan my puppy party?
Although, we don’t do the planning of the dog parties or provide your party goodies for you, but we can give you some good advice on how to do it yourself. We like to use the initials of that famous dog’s name FIDO to help you remember what to do:
F – Is for fix a date and friendly dogs.
The first thing you should probably do is fix the date with us to ensure your venue is booked for the day you want, especially if you are celebrating your pet’s Birthday. Then try to choose dogs that your best friend has met and plays well with. No bullies or rowdy untrained animals!
I – Is for Invites
Send out your invites in plenty of time. Make sure these are fun and themed for a doggie party and ensure you include, date time and our address. For a bit of fun you could insert a small doggie treat for your canine invitee?
D – Is for Doggie bags and Doggie treats.
It’s a fun idea for the doggie guests to have party bags to take home, maybe consisting of a nice bone to chew or play toy? Ensure the doggie treats at the party are all dog-friendly foods. Even ‘Dog cakes’ are available now from certain bakeries! Make sure the food and drink you provide will be adequate for both dogs and people!
O – Is for Organize games and fun activities
Finally, make sure it will be a fun party. Arrange a fun agility course with us for the dogs to enjoy, or just bring balls for your guests to chase. If it’s a Birthday party, just as with humans, have the cutting of puppy’s cake and sing Happy Birthday.
Puppy parties and adult dog parties can be great fun and if you plan them properly and use our great dog party venue, the pictures you take home will be priceless!
