Puppy Training

Positive Training for Special Pooches!

Puppies, just like very young children, need special attention and we at K9 University are aware of the special needs of our puppies. Our Puppy classes therefore are specifically designed for puppies 10 weeks to 5 months old and ensure that these very young students become happy, healthy, polite and housebroken pets you’ll be proud of.

Throughout this positive puppy training course, we use Clicker reward-based methods to build foundation skills and channel energy into rewarding tasks. You will develop a strong bond with your new puppy through learning and conducting specialized puppy training. Our Puppy Class includes Free Puppy Play to help ‘socialize’ your dog. We then lay a foundation for good behavior by focusing on three key areas

  1. Basic obedience
  2. Manners
  3. Socialization

Victoria Comerford

Victoria Comerford

Dog Trainer

Victoria (Tori) Comerford

A Chicagoland native with a degree in Zoology from SIU, Carbondale, Tori comes to K9U Chicago with a diverse background caring for and understanding animals. This has provided her with the experience to not only train dogs but teach owners how to positively strengthen the bond they have with their dog.

Tori believes in the power of communication as a valuable skill that helps dogs become secure and well socialized. This starts with understanding dog body language and the subtle cues they send to express their feelings of fear, confusion, frustration and joy. Her work as a trainer starts with sharing this knowledge through fun games and exercises that allow dogs the chance to fundamentally be dogs while nurturing and rewarding new behaviors.

Tori has experience working with all types of dog breeds and families who have needs that range from welcoming new puppies to older dogs with specific challenges including reactivity and other behaviors that require training to desensitize the dogs to certain objects, noises or other dogs.

Tori will be teaching all levels of obedience training as well as working with daycare day train clients, our board & train camps and providing private training sessions.

Why Our Clients Love Us

K9 University is great. We’ve been going there for 7 and a half years. We’ve done training, we’ve done agility, we’ve done boarding and we’ve done daycare. The only thing we haven’t done is a drop off and pick up. My dog is kind of a nut and they deal with her well. Debbie W.
I was referred by a previous customer. I had never used a daycare before and my experience has been wonderful since day ONE! The staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive to my dog (and me…LOL)…She loves going there.Tracee A.
My dog has experienced everything at K9U: daycare, classes and boarding. When he is either picked up by the K9U van or dropped off his tail is wagging like crazy. When I pick him up he is happy to see me, goes outside to relieve himself and then pulls to go back in.Jane F.
I’ve been a customer for 15 years and counting. K9 helped us raise our puppies and cherish our old girls. I can think of no other place I would trust more with my furry family.Jonathan A.
This is really awesome dog place. We had a basic obedience training here, and our dog is changed! She listens now, and behaving well, our trainer is really good - she is like a dog whisperer. Love and recommend this place for all dog parents out there.Yessie S.
K9U is great. They offer classes as well as day camp /sitting services. The size of the location is pretty impressive, as they have a large indoor and outdoor areas for dogs to play. (They even pick up and drop off your dog.). The staff and trainers are very friendly and extremely effective.James J.
